WORDY WEDNESDAY: TO RIDE SHOTGUN: meaning and examples

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well.

I think you'll find today's Wordy Wednesday interesting. It's an American slang word to describe riding in a car! Have you heard the expression TO RIDE SHOTGUN?

Definition: to ride in the front passenger's seat of a car.

Example 1: In my family, we always fought over who rode shotgun

Example 2: You're really tall, so you should ride shotgun. You'll have more legroom.

This expression comes from the American old west. The guard who rode next to the stagecoach driver had a shotgun to protect the vehicle from hostile attacks. You can find more information on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riding_shotgun.
