PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: SPRUCE UP: meaning and examples

Hello everyone! Happy Friday to you! How's your week going? I hope it's going well.

Today is the last Daily Vitamin lesson of 2016; we will begin again on Monday, January 9th. We're ending the lessons a little earlier this year because we need time to update our server and webpage.

For today's Phrasal Verb Friday we are looking at the verb TO SPRUCE UP.

Definition: to improve the appearance of something or someone; to make something look better.

Example 1: We spruced up the room by painting one wall a bright white.

Example 2: The decorations really spruced the Christmas party up!

This phrasal verb is TRANSITIVE and optionally SEPARABLE.

This might not seem like a Christmas-related phrasal verb, but it kind of is: do you know what a SPRUCE is? It's a tree! In fact, it's a type of tree we often decorate at Christmas.

We would like to thank all of you for reading and I would like to wish you a happy and healthy holiday season. We will see you back here on January 9th for more Daily Vitamins.

Until then, have a wonderful and safe holiday season!
