WORDY WEDNESDAY: JOLLY: meaning and examples

Hi, everyone! We are in the Christmas spirit here, so our Wordy Wednesday post is a word we often use at this time of year: JOLLY

We are going to look at the adjective and the adverb variations.

Definition 1 (adjective): happy and cheerful.

Example 1: Santa Claus is described as a jolly man.

Example 2: The team looked very jolly after they won their game.

Definition 2 (adverb): very, extremely.

Example 3: That's a jolly good idea!

Example 4: We had a jolly good time.

This second definition is more common in British English and not so common in American English.
