PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: ZIGGURAT BLOG WRITE DOWN: meaning and examples

Hello, readers! Welcome to our last lesson of the week. For Phrasal Verb Friday, we are looking at the phrasal verb TO WRITE DOWN. It was used by Derek Sivers in his TED Talk, "Keep your goals to yourself."

Definition
: to write something on a piece of paper so that you do not forget it. 

Derek Sivers uses this phrasal verb in the following way to talk about the process of a research study:

Example 1
: Everyone wrote down their personal goal.


Here are some more examples.

Example 2
: Write down what you need from the store and I will get those items for you. 

Example 3
: You should write your goals down to make them more real. 

Example 4: They wrote down the license plate of the car that hit them. 

This phrasal verb is TRANSITIVE and can be SEPARATED (as in Example 3).
