SUMMER CLASSICS-2: meaning and examples

Good morning!

Here is another classic summer song, sung by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. It was written by George Gershwin for the 1935 opera, Porgy and Bess. It is said that this tune is one of the most covered songs in the history of recorded music, with more than 33,000 covers by groups and solo performers.

Summertime and the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high
Your daddy's rich and your ma is good lookin'
So hush, little baby, don't you cry

One of these mornin's, you're gonna rise up singin'
Then you'll spread your wings and you'll take to the sky
But 'til that mornin', there is nothin' can harm you
With Daddy and Mummy, Mummy standing by
Don't you, don't you cry

I'll see you tomorrow, with another summer classic!

Enjoy your day!
