MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES: meaning and examples

Good morning everyone!

Today is our last summer idiom of this series.

Today's summer idiom is: TO MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES

It means: to take advantage of favourable conditions in order to do something.

Example 1:
Our computer system will be transferred to a new server tomorrow. We won't be able to use it until the day after tomorrow so let's make hay while the sun shines.

Example 2:
The weather forecast for tomorrow is terrible. I want to get some gardening done today so I plan on making hay while the sun shines.

Tomorrow will be the last Daily Vitamin of the 2012-2013 academic year; we will review some ways to maintain and/or improve your English this summer. Summer doesn't have to be a break from English; it can be a time to make hay while the sun shines. ;-)

Have a great day!
