SHOW-2: meaning and examples

Good morning!

Today we continue with another SHOW expression.

Today's expression is: TO SHOW OFF

It means: to act in a vain, demonstrative and often obnoxious way to get attention. When you show off, you hope that people will admire you.

Example 1:
Meredith continually showed off her mathematical knowledge in class by volunteering to answer all of the teacher's questions, and never letting anybody else answer.

Example 2:
I know that Greg is the top salesperson but he doesn't have to show off so much in front of the entire sales team. A little modesty would be nice!

Have a great day!
