BREAKS and SPRAINS: meaning and examples

Good morning!

Although today is Halloween, today's Vitamin is not about Halloween. However, we invite you to read some of our past Daily Vitamins about Halloween at this link:

https://www.ziggurat.es/es/lecciones_ingles/index.asp?rs=halloween

Yesterday we looked at the names for some different joints and we mentioned one common health problem related to joints (arthritis). Today we are going to explain two other common joint injuries.

to break / to fracture:  This is when a bone is fractured or split in some way.
Adjective form: broken / fractured

to sprain / to twist: This is when the ligaments surrounding a joint are damaged.
Adjective form: sprained / twisted

Example 1:
I broke / fractured my arm while I was skate-boarding. Now I have a broken /fractured arm.

Example 2:
Sally sprained / twisted her ankle during the basketball match. Now Sally has a sprained / twisted ankle.

These joints can be fragile things! Keep safe out there and have a great day and a Happy Halloween!

Remember that tomorrow there will be no Daily Vitamin because it is a bank holiday in Spain.

See you on Friday!
