Good morning.

Today we continue our look at English expressions that use the word hand in them.

Today's expression is: out of hand

Meaning: difficult or impossible to control.

Example 1:
Unemployment is getting out of hand. This crisis is getting worse and worse every day.

Example 2:
Hey! You kids stop making all that noise! You are completely out of hand!

ALTERNATIVE MEANING: If you reject something out of hand, you do so immediately without thinking about it fully or without listening to other people's arguments.

Example 3:
All of our ideas were dismissed out of hand. They had no interest in listening to our opinion.
