NEW ENGLISH WORDS (MANSPLAIN): meaning and examples

Hello and welcome back, everyone! It's the third day of our New English Words theme. Today we are looking at the word MANSPLAIN

Definition: When a man explains something to a woman, but does not ask her if she wants his explanation. (Often, the man assumes that the woman does not know what he is explaining.)

Example 1: During the interview, the manager mansplained my degree to me. As if I don't know anything about computer science: I have a master's degree in Computing!

Example 2: On the train, I met a guy who asked me where I was from. I said I was from Sacramento (in Northern California). He then mansplained to me that Sacramento is not in Northern California. I didn't argue with him, but I was annoyed.

Example 3: On Twitter, I saw a guy mansplain to a woman what a book was about. The woman he was talking to was the author of the book!

That's all for today. Thank you for reading!
