PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: FREEZE UP: meaning and examples

Hello, everyone! Happy Friday to you all. I hope that you have had a great week. 

It's cold outside, and we are looking at the phrasal verb TO FREEZE UP

Definition 1: To be blocked with ice. 

Example 1: The pipes froze up and now we don't have water. 

Definition 2: To stop working because parts of a machine do not work. 

Example 2: The car engine froze up and it’s going to cost me a lot of money to fix it. 

Definition 3: To be paralyzed with fear. 

Example 3: She tried to give her speech, but then she froze up.

It's incredible how many definitions one phrasal verb can have! This phrasal verb is INTRANSITIVE, so it doesn't take an object.
