HOLIDAY SONGS (ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU)

Happy Monday, everyone!

Today is our first Daily Vitamin lesson of December. We decided to get into the holiday spirit, so this week's theme is Famous Holiday Songs. We will look at the vocabulary from different holiday songs this week.

We are beginning with the #1 Christmas song, according to Billboard Magazine: Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You. This song uses an interesting preposition: UNDERNEATH. 

Definition: Directly under something else. 

Example 1 (from the song): And I'm just gonna keep on waiting / Underneath the mistletoe.

Example 2: All of the presents are underneath the tree. 

Example 3: We hang the stockings above the fireplace. Underneath the stockings, we put some cookies for Santa Claus. 

Underneath is similar to the preposition under. Under is used when something is directly under another thing and underneath is often used to say that something is under another thing but also covered by it.
