THEME THURSDAY: OSCAR VOCABULARY ('WHO ARE YOU WEARING?'): meaning and examples

Hello readers! Good morning to you.

We are continuing our Theme Thursday of vocabulary related to the Oscars with an expression you often hear on the red carpet: WHO ARE YOU WEARING?

Definition: Who designed your gown? (that is, what is the name of the designer?)

This is an interesting phrase because grammatically, it should be “WHAT are you wearing?” Changing WHAT to WHO is strange because you can't wear a person! However, it indicates that the person is wearing clothes from a designer who owns a clothing line.

Listen for this question if you watch the pre-Oscars shows or other red carpet events.

That's all for today. Thanks for reading!
